Overview
This is a multi-year, weekly educational seminar teaching an advanced, post-graduate course on affective illness for psychiatry residents and early career psychiatrists, taught by a rotating team of psychiatrists who are on the clinical faculty in the department of psychiatry of the Feinberg School of Medicine of NU and who are also clinicians at Chicago Psychiatry Associates.

Objectives
  1. recognize the evolution, neurobiology, motoric basis, and communicative function of affects
  2. describe the different diagnostic schemes and perspectives about affective illness
  3. diagnose affective disorders and dysfunction across the entire affective spectrum
  4. integrate basic principles of the psychopharmacologic treatment of bipolar illnesses into practice.
  5. integrate the basic principles of psychoeducation as applied to bipolar disorders into practice.
  6. integrate evidence-based psychological treatments of bipolar illness into practice.

Accreditation

The Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
