Overview
This live, virtual train-the-trainer series consists of five 60–90 minute Zoom sessions designed for clinicians and faculty who teach medical students and trainees. Each interactive session focuses on a key topic in integrative and lifestyle medicine—such as nutrition, supplements, stress, and whole-person care—and provides practical, evidence-based tools for use and teaching at the bedside. Participants will leave each session with actionable strategies to enhance clinical encounters and enrich learner education.

Objectives
  1. Counsel patients and teach trainees to counsel patients on current nutrition trends and popular dietary patterns.
  2. Conduct and teach trainees to conduct a comprehensive dietary history with patients using evidence-based questioning techniques.
  3. Collaborate effectively with dietitians, nutritionists and health coaches to optimize patient nutrition care and teach trainees when to make appropriate referrals.
  4. Define integrative medicine and differentiate it from functional medicine, lifestyle medicine, and preventive medicine when teaching trainees.
  5. Apply and teach trainees integrative approaches for symptom relief in conditions inadequately addressed by conventional treatments (e.g., fatigue, IBS, chronic pain).
  6. Incorporate evidence-based integrative and lifestyle medicine concepts into bedside teaching with medical students and residents.
  7. Utilize and teach trainees to use clinical decision support tools (smartphrases, patient handouts) to efficiently integrate IM into practice.
  8. Identify and teach trainees to recognize patients who are suitable for referral to integrative medicine providers.
  9. Apply and teach trainees culturally responsive integrative medicine approaches to address diverse patient needs and health equity.
  10. Evaluate and teach trainees to critically appraise the quality of evidence for integrative therapies.
  11. Engage in and teach trainees shared decision-making with patients regarding integrative and complementary therapies.
  12. Recognize and teach trainees the scope and limitations of integrative medicine interventions in clinical practice.
  13. Implement and teach trainees lifestyle medicine strategies addressing sleep, physical activity, and stress management in clinical practice.
  14. Teach and demonstrate brief mind-body techniques for stress reduction, resilience-building, and self-regulation to patients and trainees.
  15. Describe and teach the evidence base for integrative medicine approaches in symptom management and chronic disease prevention.
  16. Assess patients' use of dietary supplements and teach trainees to provide evidence-based guidance on safety, efficacy, and interactions.
  17. Utilize and teach trainees to access available reputable resources to answer patient questions about dietary supplements.
  18. Engage in self-care and wellness practices to promote personal and professional resilience among trainees.
  19. Access ongoing educational resources for continued learning in integrative and lifestyle medicine and guide trainees to these resources.
