Overview
One-day in-person program designed for the primary care professionals covering issues commonly confronted in their daily practice. Featured lectures will cover back pain, common fractures, preventive cardiology, childhood obesity, short stature, ALL leukemia, recurrent UTIs, bed wetting, screening for visual issues and pharmaceutical dosing & compounding.

Objectives
  1. Identify the most common causes of back pain in children and adolescents
  2. Recognize "red flags" that signal serious causes of back pain
  3. Recognize common fracture patterns in children
  4. Provide initial management of some types of uncomplicated fractures and recognize when referral is warranted
  5. Explain the rationale for universal lipid screening
  6. Council the patients on how to manage and reduce their lipid levels
  7. Define childhood obesity and treatment options
  8. Discuss the future of childhood obesity and its implications
  9. Identify poor growth patterns in various age groups, including abnormal growth velocity
  10. Explain the initial evaluation and when to refer for further testing / intervention
  11. Recognize new treatment modalities for pediatric pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) including targeted drug delivery and immunotherapies
  12. Identify opportunities for partnership with primary care during ALL treatment and survivorship
  13. Identify various urinary tract anomalies and how these differences can lead to UTIs
  14. Explain the role of urodynamic testing in recurrent UTIs
  15. Identify lower urinary tract dysfunction and its manifestations including urinary incontinence, nocturnal enuresis
  16. Utilize simple strategies for initiating effective voiding behavior modification, bowel management and discuss referral to the Lurie Children’s Bladder Function Improvement Training (BFIT) Program
  17. Recognize age-appropriate vision screening techniques and tools for children from infancy through adolescence, and when referral is necessary
  18. Identify common pediatric vision disorders (e.g., amblyopia, strabismus, refractive errors) and describe their early signs, risk factors, and the importance of timely intervention to prevent long-term visual impairment
  19. Recognize age related factors that impact medication dosing
  20. Describe different drug formulations and delivery methods for pediatric patients and common medication safety challenges and methods to prevent errors

Registration is due approximately 10 days prior to each course and is non-refundable. If registering for the discount packages, please complete by November 9, 2025. There is a strict no-refund policy unless request is received seven days prior to the event. Consideration will be given to emergency situations and a credit for a future event will be offered.
