Overview
A one-day conference designed for healthcare providers interested in learning more about various issues their children and adolescent patients may encounter and how to best diagnose, manage or triage.

Objectives
  1. Explain embryologic basis and anatomy of cleft lip and cleft palate and recognize the important of multidisciplinary care.
  2. Review the medical and surgical timeline for care of a patient with cleft lip and/or cleft palate.
  3. Recognize the importance for prenatal referral of cleft lip and palate patients to Cleft Team.
  4. Discuss the importance of patient/caregiver selection for the therapeutic technique - Presurgical Infant Orthopaedics (PSIO) and the mproved surgical outcomes for surgical lip closure and nasal repair.
  5. Explain how NAM therapy and other traditional techniques reduce the severity of the initial cleft deformity.
  6. Recognize jaw asymmetry that is associated with hemifacial microsomia and the developmental anomalies of the face and jaws that can result following cleft lip and palate repair.
  7. Identify key techniques for correction of jaw deformity in hemifacial microsomia and the best age for such correction.
  8. Review why collaborative support from feeding specialist and PCPs are integral to NAM success.
  9. Describe the four clinical criteria that are highly suggestive of a diagnosis of primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD).
  10. Discuss the recommended testing to diagnose PCD and the role of the Pediatric PCD Center at Lurie Children’s Hospital.
  11. Review updates on concussion management in children including return to learn and return to play guidelines.
  12. Discuss how a pediatric neuropsychologist evaluates patients who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
  13. Describe how recovery from a concussion can be complicated by psychosocial factors.
  14. List evidence-based strategies for supporting a patient's recovery from a concussion.
  15. Discuss the differences in bone physiology between adults and children.
  16. Review common patterns of injury in children and overuse injuries seen in skeletal immature individuals.
  17. Demonstrate an understanding of common pediatric dental emergencies and recognize a true dental emergency.
  18. Discuss the difference in diagnosis between positional plagiocephaly and synostotic plagiocephaly.
  19. Give a clinical and imaging diagnosis of craniosynostosis and discuss the current surgical treatment of craniosynostosis.
  20. Lead a focused exam of the knee to identify the most common pediatric knee conditions.

This activity has been rescheduled in light of COVID-19 and Lurie Children's commitment in stopping the spread of the virus. The new date is SEPTEMBER 9, 2020. If you have already registered and paid for the conference, no further action is needed.
