Overview
An annual two-day Symposium on the topic of Child Maltreatment provided by the Child Abuse Pediatrics Division at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. The purpose of the Symposium is to bring awareness to the different aspects of child abuse and neglect to a diverse audience to help educate individuals that work on child abuse and neglect cases. The Child Maltreatment Symposium will consist of 9 lecturers that will present on topics associated with sub-populations within the field of child maltreatment and on wellness for providers. At this year's Symposium, the Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics will collaborate in-person and virtually with experts within the field of pediatric medicine, law enforcement, social work, and other members that work within the fi eld to combat child abuse and neglect.

Objectives
  1. Identify and compare strategies for screening and inquiry for Intimate partner violence in the pediatric setting
  2. Identify ways to support caregivers in pediatric care settings
  3. Define the basic concept of epigenetics
  4. Describe the role of epigenetics in mediating the relationship between early life experiences and health outcomes
  5. Describe an expanded scope of child trafficking and exploitation
  6. Discuss that a true multi-disciplined approach to a medical child abuse investigation is needed to successfully protect the victim and bring justice to the offender
  7. Recognize the clinical and historical features of abusive head trauma
  8. Discuss the effects of psychological maltreatment on child development
  9. Identify the different challenges experienced by non-English speaking immigrant families when discussing child maltreatment topics.
