Overview
A full-day event in Oak Brook covering common adolescent related health concerns.

Objectives
  1. Review causes of pain in adolescent population (Primary dysmenorrhea, Secondary dysmenorrhea, Endometriosis, Obstructions of the genital outflow tract)
  2. Discuss evaluation of pelvic pain during adolescence and be able to identify when a pelvic examination is indicated and when imaging US in indicated
  3. Utilize a patient-centered approach to contraceptive counseling and management in adolescents
  4. Recognize and manage common challenges related to contraceptive use
  5. Identify adolescent populations at increased HIV risk and recognize provider-level barriers to PrEP in pediatric settings
  6. Define PrEP mechanisms: oral and long-acting injectable and describe current PrEP regimens for adolescents
  7. Outline initiation, monitoring & discontinuation steps and apply tailored counseling for each PrEP modality
  8. Differentiate cultural competence from clinical humility and explain why humility better supports equitable pediatric care
  9. Apply humility micro-skills (5Rs, respectful curiosity, repair, teach-back) to common pediatric scenarios and team interactions
  10. Embed humility into supervision and training (behaviorally anchored feedback, psychological safety rituals, diversity/power check-ins)
  11. Articulate the trends in use of nicotine and cannabis products
  12. Identify steps to address nicotine and cannabis use in their practice
  13. Understand different presentations and differential diagnoses of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
  14. Explore options for treatment of ARFID in multidisciplinary settings
  15. Utilize appropriate methods to screen adolescents for substance use
  16. Engage in brief interventions with adolescents who use substances
  17. Identify signs and symptoms of disordered eating in adolescents with "normal" or elevated BMIs
  18. Develop a script for discussing weight management with adolescents that simultaneously promotes metabolic health and minimizes weight bias
  19. Explain importance, benefits of evidence-based gender affirming mental and medical care for young people
  20. Describe core components of gender affirming care to support youth and families
