Friday, November 8, 2024, 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Lurie Children's Hospital, 11th Floor- Conference Center, Chicago, IL

Target Audience
Specialties - Genetic Counseling
Professions - Genetic Counselor, Nurse, Physician

Overview
There is a need to update cardiologists and electrophysiologists on the following: - Inherited arrhythmogenic diseases (IADs) causing sudden death constitute a rapidly changing scenario due to the fast growing of knowledge. Update of diagnostic procedures is required. - Recent scientific advancements highlight a complexity of genetic determinants of IADs. Channeling this knowledge into a correct approach to genetic testing in IADs is very important for the practicing physician. - In the approach to patients with IADs, risk stratification and therapeutic management are intrinsically related. It is important to fill the gaps that prevent a correct use of epidemiological data in clinical practice. - Basic science studies are continuously modifying our understanding of the pathophysiology of IADs. Accordingly, updated knowledge is important to foster an educated interpretation of clinical findings. - This program will include an update on long QT syndrome (LQTS), Brugada syndrome (BrS), catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT), and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC)

Objectives
  1. Identify and analyze the latest scientific advances and innovations in the field of inheritable rhythm disorders.
  2. Review complex genetic abnormalities known to cause sudden arrythmogenic death syndrome.
  3. Discuss evidence-based approaches to variant analyses in putative genetic mutations of unknown significance.
  4. Discuss holistic approaches in treating sudden death disease including sports restrictions in the era of shared decision making.
