Overview
Identified gaps in education and training have contributed to health disparities in the medical and aesthetic care of patients with skin of color. The Northwestern Center for Ethnic Skin and Hair Skin of Color symposium will educate dermatology clinicians and trainees to better diagnose and treat dermatologic disorders in populations with skin of color, including those that disproportionately affect darker skin tones. The symposium will highlight the use of safe, effective, and culturally competent care to a diverse patient population, along with sharing practical pearls and the latest advances from our local leading experts in the field. Our program covers the broad range of inflammatory, pigmentary, and hair disorders that are prevalent in patients with skin of color, as well as safe approaches to aesthetic procedures in patients with darker skin pigmentation.

Objectives
  1. Describe the unique or nuanced presentations of cutaneous disease in skin of color
  2. Discuss the cultural perspectives of patients with skin of color
  3. Diagnose, evaluate, and safely treat dermatologic disease in skin of color patients
