Overview
These workshops cover a range of development topics, including adult learning theory, giving feedback, writing test questions, assessment, curriculum development, team-based learning, screencasting, large-group teaching, active learning and mentoring and simulation instructor training. They’re open to all Feinberg faculty educators.


Objectives
  1. Provide actionable suggestions for improvement as well as written feedback based on observable behaviors.
  2. Identify common pitfalls in providing written feedback.
  3. Differentiate between more effective and less effective feedback.
  4. Align written comments to behavioral anchors on assessment forms.
  5. Provide students with specific and concrete feedback about their performance in small group settings.
  6. Apply formative feedback strategies and assessment techniques with demonstrated validity.
  7. Avoid common pitfalls leading to rejection of curriculum proposals.
  8. Identify skills that commonly require enhancement among medical educators across various disciplines.
  9. Describe the most common and most effective pathways to successful mentorship of trainees.
  10. Describe common elements of supportive learning environments and effective remediation strategies.
  11. Describe the current state of learning theory in relation to medical education.
  12. Differentiate between and differentiate between best practices among various educational settings, including within the workplace, small group, large group, on rounds, and after rounds.
  13. Develop effective learning objectives.
  14. Design an effective curriculum for a course of study.

Accreditation

The Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
