Overview
A Heart Team is now a standard treatment approach for complex cardiovascular patients. The Heart Team consists of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, nurses and other health care specialists. This includes regular meetings to make consensus treatment recommendations for conditions including obstructive coronary artery disease and valvular heart conditions. This series will provide expert lectures and case presentations geared toward health care professionals who may be part of a Heart Team. Included with be the latest innovations as well as standard treatments, including transcatheter valvular heart therapies and coronary revascularization strategies.


Objectives
  1. Describe the concept of the Heart Team, including the key components and functionality
  2. List transcatheter options to address heart valve pathology including aortic, mitral, tricuspid and pulmonic stenosis and regurgitation
  3. Describe the latest interventional and surgical techniques and therapies for structural heart disease and congenital heart disease
  4. Implement appropriate patient selection and referral for surgical versus percutaneous/transcatheter mitral and aortic valve intervention
  5. Incorporate various diagnostic technologies including transthoracic echocardiography, intracardiac echocardiography, TEE, CT, and CMR to guide management of valvular heart disease
  6. Describe the differences in outcomes in valvular and coronary pathology in men and women
  7. Describe the racial disparities encountered in cardiovascular health.
  8. Choose and utilize appropriately the various hemodynamic support and interventional/surgical tools to assist in the management of cardiogenic shock
  9. Identify for LA appendage closure the appropriate indications, the pre-procedural evaluation, the available and emerging technologies to manage the left atrial appendage. and the impact on mitigating stroke risk
  10. Summarize the latest developments and the current guidelines on the appropriate use of surgical and percutaneous coronary revascularization
  11. Identify how to evaluate, follow, refer and treat patients with thoracic aneurysms
  12. Implement the latest guidelines when evaluating/imaging the patient with suspected coronary artery disease
