Overview
The Year in Infectious Diseases is an annual symposium focused on contemporary challenges in the field of Infectious Diseases. This year's symposium will focus on antimicrobial resistance, infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship. Each session will have several speakers focused on providing the science that supported a successful intervention that will be demonstrated in a case-based real-world experience. Speakers will focus on 3 topic areas: resistance mechanisms of gram positive bacteria, gram negative bacteria and fungi and contemporary management strategies for treating multi-drug resistant bacterial; approaches to hospital-based infection surveillance, emerging epidemologic methods for tracing infections and environmental measures to mitigate against infection transmission; and antimicrobial stewardship metrics and implementation strategies.

Objectives
  1. Describe contemporary approaches to and best practices for hospital-based surveillance and mitigation of transmission of multi-drug resistant organisms.
  2. Identify approaches to diagnosing and treating infections with multi-drug resistant bacteria.
  3. Describe novel therapeutics and management strategies for infections with Gram-negative multi-drug resistant organisms.
  4. Describe the role the lung microbiome plays in susceptibility and response to pneumonia.
  5. Identify the contributions of the gut microbiome to prevention of colonization with multi-drug resistant bacteria.
  6. Define factors that contribute to perturbation of the microbiome and the effects on disease development.
  7. Define laboratory and epidemiological techniques for Candida auris identification and tracking in healthcare facilities.
  8. Identify mechanisms of C. auris antifungal resistance.
  9. Describe treatment options and implement best practices for management C. auris and other fungal infections.
