Overview
This activity will advance the knowledge and strategies for caring for pediatric patients in acute care situations. Presentations will include topics of evidence -based clinical practice guidelines for treating children in the emergency department and primary care settings with varying emergent medical conditions. Topics include • Pediatric Red Eye Evaluation • Medical Malpractice • Firearm Safety • Pediatric Readiness Breakout Sessions include: • SANE Evaluation and Update/Legal • In office Sports Med Update • Simulation for High Acuity Pediatric Events

Objectives
  1. Administer care to children under the current standard of care with varying emergent medical conditions within the emergency department.
  2. Practice evidence-based approach for SANE examinations, kit collection and patient advocacy and how these relate to upcoming changes in SASETA (Sexual Assault Survivors Emergency Treatment Act)
  3. Discuss current regional and national statistics on firearm-based violence in the pediatric population and screen for risk with individual patients and best advocate for pediatric patient safety (regionally and nationally).
  4. Discuss key attributes of Pediatric Readiness as they apply to both the emergency room, urgent care and pediatric office setting.
  5. Identify challenging patient presentation scenarios and subsequent legal ramifications from a medical risk perspective, including best practices regarding documentation, patient/family discussions and Interprofessional communication as it pertains to medical care and treatment.
