Overview
A full-day conference dedicated to pediatric mental health topics confronted in the primary care setting.

Objectives
  1. Discuss the importance of primary care providers in closing the substantial mental health assessment and treatment gap
  2. Discuss the fundamental diagnostic differences among normal human sadness, demoralization and clinical depression
  3. Identify the factors that contribute to behavioral dysregulation and aggression in pediatric patients with DD/ASD
  4. Discuss specific activities in which pediatricians can engage that are consistent with a busy office practice
  5. Discuss the various types of unhappiness that children and adolescents experience
  6. Recognize the psychopharmacological options for treating symptoms that underlie behavioral dysregulation and aggression in patients with DD/ASD
  7. Recognize the importance of family acceptance in shaping mental health outcomes for youth
  8. Describe the developmental processes of gender identity development among transgender and gender nonconforming youth
  9. Make appropriate psychopharmacological treatment plans to target symptoms that underlie behavioral dysregulation and aggression in patients with DD/ASD
  10. Review the prevalence of anxiety disorders in pediatrics
  11. Review pediatric evidence base for combination treatment (therapy and medication management) for anxiety disorders and first-line medication, including adverse effects
  12. Discuss current research findings on autism, depression, anxiety, ADHD and gender diversity
  13. Discuss the family-centered 6 stages model of engagement in care for child mental health conditions
  14. Discuss how to apply the stages of engagement in real-world clinical settings when working with parents whose child has or is at risk for a mental health condition
  15. Discuss ways to work with parents who are reluctant to consider medication management when indicated
  16. Describe characteristics of childhood onset tic disorders and understand how to counsel families about natural history and treatment options
  17. Identify features of tic disorders which are suggestive of functional tics
  18. Recognize functional neurologic disorder and become comfortable with counseling families with this diagnosis
  19. Identify risk profiles associated suicide attempts
  20. Review options for effective screening and identification procedures in primary care
