Pediatric Pearls Cardiology

This live virtual event will be presented by a team of pediatric cardiologists and CV surgeons and is designed for the pediatrician and other healthcare providers who manage the care of their young patients and teens. The full day event will consist of several topics and updates related to cardiovascular health of children and adolescents.

1. Discuss the latest guidelines in cholesterol screening
2. Describe how an exercise consultation and exercise prescription can help a patient with dyslipidemia
3. Recognize common forms of congenital heart disease (CHD) diagnosed by fetal echocardiography & limitations of a fetal echo
4. Discuss prediction of hemodynamic instability in the newborn with CHD
5. Explain the neonatal management of Patent Ductus Arteriosus and Pulmonary Vein Stenosis
6. Appraise options for valve replacement in children with congenital heart disease
7. Describe resources needed to take care of newborns with low risk vs. high risk congenital heart defect
8. Describe the anatomy and physiology of hypoplastic left heart syndrome
9. Discuss stem cells and their role in pediatric cardiology today and in the future
10. Review common causes of non-cardiac chest pain in young children/adolescents
11. Review cardiac causes of chest pain in young children/adolescents
12. Review impact of CHD and palliated single ventricle heart disease
13. Review prevalence of neurodevelopmental impairment in children with CHD
14. Discuss high-risk criteria for neurodevelopmental impairment in CHD pts and recommended screening
15. Summarize Kawasaki disease guidelines in a pragmatic way
16. Identify clinical pearls to aid in the diagnosis and management of Kawasaki disease
17. Describe a Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) and when it should be used and the outcomes of VADs in children
18. Review the physiology of the neonatal transition
19. Identify normal echo findings associated with the neonatal transition
20. Discuss indications and limitations of a neonatal echocardiogram
