Overview
Complex laws and systems for opioid prescribing and disposal have contributed to the opioid epidemic. Innovations methods to comply with opioid prescribing laws, educate families about safe opioid storage, rapidly dispose of opioids will be demonstrated.

Objectives
  1. Review the latest data about the opioid epidemic and its impact within the United States and Illinois in adolescent and adult populations.
  2. Differentiating between diversion, opioid misuse, and opioid use disorder.
  3. Discuss the relationship between substance use disorder and opioid misuse in youth.
  4. Learn how to decrease opioid diversion and accidental poisonings through recognizing the importance of safe storage and disposal of opioids.
  5. Identify ways to support parents and youth with prevention efforts.
  6. Discover resources available to you to help educate your patients and their families.
