Overview
The “Protect Our Children: Working Together to Recognize and Prevent Child Maltreatment” symposium will bring awareness to different aspects of child abuse and maltreatment to a diverse audience. This symposium will collaborate with experts within the field of pediatric medicine, law enforcement, education, social work, members of the legal community and other specialty areas that are needed to combat child abuse and maltreatment. Topics will include identifying important components that may be overlooked during a physical exam, clinical signs and symptoms of child abuse and maltreatment, psychosocial components of child abuse, child maltreatment and human trafficking.

Objectives
  1. Identify important components associated with physical child abuse and neglect risk factors.
  2. Recognize common injuries of physical child abuse often seen while conducting a patient evaluation.
  3. Evaluate and properly report child maltreatment and sexual assault.
  4. Describe how child maltreatment and sexual assault may present during medical care
  5. Discuss the psychosocial impact of child human trafficking and which populations are at higher risk.
  6. Identify community agencies that complete the continuum of care for victims of child sexual and physical abuse, child neglect and child maltreatment

The Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
