Overview
Epilepsy is a rapidly evolving field. Genetic testing is now available not only for pediatric but also adult patients with epilepsy advancing our understanding of genetic etiologies and potential avenues for precision medicine. Functional neurosurgery continues to evolve offering more minimally invasive techniques to explore the epileptogenic zone close to functional areas or to target deeper structures for neuromodulation or disconnection procedures.

Objectives
  1. Demonstrate the importance of semiology to diagnose paroxysmal disorders.
  2. Identify patients who may benefit from epilepsy surgery close to functional cortex.
  3. Discuss the risk and benefits of minimally invasive epilepsy surgery compared to a conventional approach.
  4. Compare inflammatory and genetic etiologies of epilepsy and novel treatment approaches.
  5. Apply evidence-based approaches to complex epilepsy cases through interactive discussion to enhance clinical competence.
  6. Integrate knowledge of inflammatory and genetic mechanisms into individualized epilepsy treatment plans.
  7. Interpret emerging evidence on inflammatory and genetic mechanisms in epilepsy to inform clinical decisions.
