Overview
One-day in-person program designed for the primary care professionals covering issues commonly confronted in their daily practice. Featured lectures will cover signs of child abuse, recommended vaccine schedules, immediate care situations that present in the primary care office, depression, bipolar disease and anxiety. The second half of the day will cover swallowing and speech disorders, eczema and managing the child with complex medical needs.

Objectives
  1. Review pearls and pitfalls for common urgent presentations to immediate care centers
  2. Discuss management of urgent concerns in the office
  3. Implement the key components of a history and physical exam when evaluating for child physical abuse
  4. Identify signs and symptoms concerning for child physical abuse and the process to report them
  5. Discuss criteria for psychotic disorders in adolescents
  6. Recognize symptoms of the "prodrome" of psychosis and options for assessment and referrals
  7. Identify which children in pediatric practice qualify for key state and federal services
  8. Incorporate best practices to appeal denials of services into patient-level advocacy
  9. Detail typical feeding development milestones from birth to 6 years, and identify feeding/swallowing warning signs that could prompt a referral
  10. Discuss the role of occupational therapy vs. speech-language pathology in the management of feeding/swallowing disorder
  11. Review latest evidence-based recommendations for vaccine recommendations in children
  12. Discuss the areas of divergence between ACIP recommendations compared to society and public health group recommendations
  13. Review key points to discuss with families when communicating about vaccine recommendations
  14. Discuss the differences between normal and pathological anxiety and screening measures for childhood onset anxiety disorders
  15. Describe the pattern of physical symptoms commonly observed in children with anxiety disorders
  16. Discuss the relative value of cognitive behavioral therapy, antidepressant medications, and their combination in the treatment of childhood onset anxiety disorders
  17. Discuss 'atypical' or 'next-generation' antipsychotic medications
  18. Explain how antipsychotics given to children can reduce aggression and dangerous behaviors
  19. Recognize the presentations of pediatric atopic dermatitis and design therapy plans for mild to severe atopic dermatitis
  20. Discuss new and evolving therapies for pediatric atopic dermatitis
