Overview

Patient data and referral patterns tell us that community practitioners may be unaware of the current evidence on the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive value of cancer detection tests, how to screen and assess patients for alcohol use disorders using validated tools, how our workforce are key enablers of health equity, how to facilitate shared decision-making to support sustainable weight reduction strategies. It can be difficult for the busy practitioner to take time away from their practice to learn what is new, including the latest procedures and treatment in these specialties. This activity aims to provide practice guideline updates, latest procedures and treatment and review recently published clinical trial data.

Objectives
  1. Review current evidence on the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive value of cancer detection tests. Discuss the limitations.
  2. Explain the science behind the testing and the biological basis of circulating tumor DNA and cell-free DNA in the bloodstream.
  3. Explain how to facilitate shared decision-making to support sustainable weight reduction strategies.
  4. Discuss how our workforce are key enablers of health equity.
  5. Review the definition of health equity and how it is tied to our Northwestern Medicine 2035 strategic plan.
  6. Evaluate and assess patients for alcohol use disorders using validated tools.
  7. Identify key strategies for implementing Teach-Back effectively in clinical practice.
  8. Evaluate the strengths and limitations of AI tools used for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning.
