Overview

An evidence-based Anesthesiology conference in September 2025 for local anesthesiologists, CRNAs, anesthesia residents/fellows presented by NM Anesthesiology Faculty representing all NM Divisions.

Lectures will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center, 303 E. Superior Street, Chicago, IL 60611, from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Breakfast will be available from 7:00 to 7:50 a.m.

The optional ultrasound workshop will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Northwestern Simulation Lab, 240 E. Huron Street, Chicago, IL 60611, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Breakfast will be available from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m.


Objectives
  1. Implement the latest strategies for managing pain in the perioperative setting to enhance patient comfort and outcomes.
  2. Integrate virtual reality technology into procedural sedation practices to reduce reliance on pharmacologic agents.
  3. Execute the protocols for performing awake kidney transplants, focusing on patient selection and intraoperative management.
  4. Apply the updated ASRA guidelines on coagulation and infection control to minimize complications in regional anesthesia.
  5. Develop effective strategies for managing failed epidural catheters to ensure safe and effective analgesia during labor and cesarean delivery.
  6. Conduct thorough antepartum evaluations for parturients with neurological conditions such as prior back surgery, pseudotumor cerebri, Arnold Chiari malformations, and spina bifida.
  7. Employ advanced techniques for lung isolation in patients with difficult airways to facilitate safe surgical procedures.
  8. Utilize practical tips and advanced techniques for managing patients on veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO).
  9. Implement best practices for managing elevated intracranial pressure in the perioperative setting to optimize patient outcomes.
  10. Address the unique perioperative concerns of patients with chronic spinal cord injuries to ensure comprehensive care.
  11. Apply enhanced recovery protocols to improve postoperative recovery times and patient satisfaction.
  12. Execute advanced airway management techniques to ensure patient safety during anesthesia.
