Overview
This series will consist of four full-day programs and one half-day program. Offering a variety of topics and designed for the primary care provider, this series offers a couple of different formats, either in person or virtually. These programs are created by experts in specialty care who will lecture on many hot topics encountered by the primary care team making education and ease of access a priority. These programs will vary in CME hours (4.25 - 6.50)

Objectives
  1. Describe the changing of “what is autism” from historical perspective and identify methods of making a diagnosis.
  2. Identify initial age and presentation for problematic feeding in autism and explain the importance of core/foundational food item.
  3. Describe developmental screening and testing options available for use in the primary care setting.
  4. Identify differences from early intervention referrals and services and discuss the role of the pediatrician in initiating early intervention services.
  5. Identify supportive resources to provide to the patients with autism or developmental differences and identify three Chicago land resource sites.
  6. Describe the concepts of ableism and neurodiversity and discuss concrete strategies on how clinicians can support their neurodiverse patients.
  7. Identify how anxiety within autism spectrum disorder presents differently and list types of assessment/measures available for internalizing symptoms in children with ASD.
  8. Review factors associated with behavioral dysregulation in ASD and review common co-morbid psychiatric disorders associated with ASD.
  9. Identify effective strategies for clear and concise explaining various developmental disorders to caregivers and discuss the impact of thorough patient education.
  10. Explain the most common sleep problems in children with autism and recognize comorbid conditions impacting sleep in children with ASD.
  11. Review behavioral and pharmacological interventions that may be incorporated into your practice.
  12. Identify when an autistic patient is experiencing symptoms and signs that may be caused by epilepsy or seizures and identify the diagnostic process.
  13. Describe a basic framework on what to consider when creating a treatment plan for children with disabilities and identify red flags that indicate support beyond therapy may be needed.
  14. Discover ways of support for families in navigating school resources.
  15. Recognize the importance of providing families with a thorough understanding of their child’s developmental diagnosis.
  16. Identify key strategies for effectively educating caregivers about autism and other developmental disorders.
  17. Learn about common challenges that families face when navigating a new developmental diagnosis.
  18. Identify ways to emotionally support caregivers and siblings through their unique experiences.
  19. Empower pediatricians to prepare families for a developmental evaluation.
  20. Recognize when genetic testing and/or referral to genetics should be considered, types of tests and possible outcomes of genetic testing.
