Overview
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, the University of Illinois Peoria and UCSD Rady Children’s Hospital jointly present the Fetal & Neonatal Cardiac Symposium with three full days of presentations and workshops by renowned speakers in pediatric cardiology, pediatric cardiac surgery, maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology and obstetric ultrasonography. Highlights include detecting and managing various fetal and neonatal cardiac abnormalities, neonatal pulmonary hypertension, and multiple gestations. There will be pediatric cardiac surgical updates, hands-on fetal scanning workshops, and live case discussions. Oral abstract presentations will take place during the meeting as well. The symposium will emphasize the basics of fetal cardiac scanning, coupled with hands-on sessions and tips for diagnosing various cardiac anomalies. Presentations, given by nationally internationally renowned faculty, will focus on anomalies of the four-chamber and outflow-tracts views, reflecting the recent guidelines for screening for fetal heart disease.

Objectives
  1. Define the embryogenesis, genetics, morphology, pathophysiology, and clinical manifestations of discussed cardiac defects in the fetus and neonates
  2. Describe the differences in cardiovascular physiology and manifestations of cardiovascular diseases and cardiac rhythm disturbances in the fetus and the newborn, and discuss how they affect the management of the fetus and the newborn
  3. Review medical, interventional and surgical management of discussed diseases affecting the fetal and neonatal cardiovascular system
  4. Discuss diagnostic methods for diagnosing cardiac conditions affecting the fetus and the neonate.
  5. Apply the discussed imaging techniques in the scanning sessions to enhance proficiency in fetal echocardiography to improve diagnostic accuracy
