Overview
The AACD Annual Meeting will start with a one-hour review of key cosmetic dermatology literature from the preceding year. This will be followed by two hours of discussion groups focused on improving resident education in cosmetic and laser dermatology and optimizing the in-clinic experience of cosmetic patients. There will be five separate discussion groups with the following topics: (1) Developing hybrid didactic schedule at each residency that includes local, regional, and national resources (e.g., journal club, meetings); (2) streamlining the process for obtaining supplies and equipment for simulation and training; (3) development of joint faculty-resident webinars; (4) optimizing patient educational materials regarding pre- and post-procedure care; and (5) improving methods for training residents, fellows, and attendings on use of newly acquired laser devices. Finally, the last hour of the program will be dedicated to development of a framework for a cosmetic curriculum. This will be achieved by small groups tasked to create documents describing recommended learning for various cosmetic dermatology subtopics.

Objectives
  1. Describe recent key research findings pertaining to cosmetic and laser dermatology, including efficacy, safety, and ideal patient selection of novel treatments.
  2. Implement a hybrid didactic schedule for dermatology residency programs that includes local, regional, and national resources (e.g., journal club, meetings).
  3. Utilize streamlined processes for dermatology residency programs to obtain supplies and equipment for simulation and training.
  4. Use patient educational handouts and materials to help patients understand what they need to do before and after cosmetic procedures.
  5. More effectively train residents and other attendings on safe and appropriate use of newly acquired laser devices.
  6. Share with residents the framework of a curriculum for cosmetic and laser dermatology education.
