Overview
Growing evidence indicates that acute and chronic health effects can occur due to occupational exposure to over 200 hazardous drugs used commonly in healthcare settings. While the new regulations have been set forth by national health & safety organizations, they have been designed to eliminate or significantly reduce the risk of occupational exposure. Care providers have a critical role to play in protecting themselves through awareness and compliance with these standards. The goal of this training is to increase awareness and to promote safe work practices for the care providers who routinely work with hazardous drugs.

Objectives
  1. Name common types of hazardous drugs and understand their risks.
  2. Discuss how to safely work with or around hazardous drugs, individually and with colleagues; including engineering controls, safe work practices, proper labeling, and disposal practices.
  3. Explain reporting procedures and documentation requirements involving hazardous drug events.
  4. Identify the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed to protect yourself while working with or around hazardous drugs.
  5. Assess the components of the Hazardous Drugs Medical Surveillance Program.
  6. Select additional information on tools and resources for hazardous drugs.
