Overview
This conference will inform providers of the latest advances and guidelines in topical issues in neurosurgery, including awake craniotomy for brain tumor patients, treatment of cervical spine disorders (trauma, fusion, disc replacements), operative versus conservative management in patients with neck/back pain, and innovations in neuromodulation for chronic pain.

Objectives
  1. Explain the basic protocols and procedures regarding acute traumatic injury to the cervical spine.
  2. Evaluate the use evidence based medicine when choosing the appropriate surgical plan for cervical spine.
  3. Evaluate cervical disc arthroplasty indications and counter indications.
  4. Examine the advantages and disadvantages of cervical spine fusion and disc replacements.
  5. Discuss the criteria for considering surgical interventions for patients.
  6. Identify the origins and extent of the opioid crisis.
  7. Assess the role of awake surgery in obtaining greater extent of resection, reduce unwarranted deficits, expedite discharges and reduce costs.
