Overview
Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) is a national certified course designed to help healthcare professionals improve outcomes during the first hours of a neurological emergency. The course is divided into 14 training modules designed to provide a consistent set of protocols, practical checklists, decision points, and suggested communication to use during patient management.

Objectives
  1. Recognize the signs and symptoms of acute ischemic stroke.
  2. Apply, in a timely fashion, acute stroke interventions including t-PA and endovascular approaches.
  3. Diagnose and classify Transient Ischemic Attack and implement stroke prevention.
  4. Recognize when the complaint of weakness is caused by an emergency process.
  5. Classify weakness as caused by a problem with the central or peripheral nervous system.
  6. Demonstrate the need for airway protection and ventilation.
  7. Select medications used for induction and sedation post tracheal intubation.
  8. Choose medications for sedation of patients with neurological emergencies who are intubated and who are not intubated.
  9. Utilize a neurological exam in a patient with coma.
  10. Assess airway and need for assisted ventilation.
  11. Establish a diagnosis of the cause of coma.
  12. Identify and apply treatment for the most likely cause of coma if indicated.
  13. Apply a rapid neurological assessment on a patient.
  14. Calculate the ICH score.
